Information for Authors

Submission of Manuscripts

The Journal of Energetic Materials is typeset from electronic copy. Manuscript files may be uploaded to the Journal Web site. Instructions for electronic upload are here.

Do not attempt to send the files by E-mail: the Editor’s e-mailbox is set to reject messages containing large attachments.

Preparation of Manuscripts

The Journal prefers the use of standard, non-proprietary formats for text and illustrations. Electronic text files should be saved and submitted in OpenDocument file format (ODT). The OpenDocument file format is an XML file format standardized by OASIS (Organization for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards). The schema for the OpenDocument formats can be found on the www.oasis-open.org website. Alternatively, the Microsoft # Rich Text Format (RTF) may be used. Authors may download the manuscript template, a document which provides the proper JOEM format, from here.

All parts of the manuscript should be double-spaced, with margins of at least one inch on all sides. Number manuscript pages consecutively throughout the paper. Authors should also supply a shortened version of the title suitable for the running head, not exceeding 50 character spaces. Each article should be summarized in an abstract of not more than 100 words. Avoid abbreviations, diagrams, and reference to the text. On the title page, include full names of authors, academic and/or other professional affiliations, and the complete address, telephone number, fax number, and e-mail address of the author to whom proofs and correspondence should be sent.

Citations in the text are by number in brackets. Full citations should be arranged numerically double-spaced and must conform to the style below. Examples:

Journal Article:
Gunn, E. M., S. C. Ballard, and M. D. Devine. 1984. The Public Utility Regulatory Policies Act: Issues in federal and state implementation. Policy Studies Journal, 13M:353–364.

Book:
Keeney, R. W. 1980. Siting Energy Facilities. New York: Academic Press.

They should haveresolution of 300 dpi or higher, and be sized to fit on the Journal page. Please use only JPEG, TIFF, EPS, or PSD format for these digital files.

Tables and Figures

Tables and figures should be provided in separate digital files. Do not embed tables or figures within the text document. A short descriptive title should appear above each table with a clear legend and any footnotes suitably identified below. Allunits must be included. Figures should be completely labeled, taking into account necessary size reduction. Captions should be typed, double-spaced, on a separate sheet. Any original hard-copy figures should be clearly marked in bluepencil on the reverse side with the number, author’s name, and top edge indicated. Be sure that every figure has a brief descriptive legend and that every table has a concise title. Color illustrations will be considered for publication; however, the author will be required to bear the full cost involved in their printing and publication. The charge for the first page with color is $900.00. The next three pages with color are $450.00 each. A custom quote will be provided for color art totaling more than 4 journal pages. Good-quality color prints or files should be provided in their final size. The publisher has the right to refuse publication of color prints deemed unacceptable.

Page Proofs

There will be a link in the e-mail providing authors access to a PDF version of their proofs and to a proofs response form.
